The myth of work–life balance is everywhere… but it’s also one of the biggest sources of pressure I see in leaders, teams, and individuals.

For a long time in my own life, I tried to separate “work” from “life.”

But during a period when I didn’t feel safe at home, that separation became impossible. I would try to show up at work as if nothing was happening — but of course, everything was happening. And pretending only made it worse.

This episode of Everything and Nothing explores exactly that:
what happens when psychological safety is missing — at home, at work, or both — and how it impacts every area of our lives.

Because balance doesn’t come from dividing life into two boxes. It comes from understanding where we feel safe, where we don’t, and what we can do to rebuild trust within ourselves.

There are so many reasons I love my monkeys (yes, I call my dogs and cats monkeys)—and every day, they remind me of the unexpected benefits of sharing life with them. So I’m starting a little series: Daily Benefits of Living with 5 Furry Roommates.

Today’s Benefit: Bat Detection System 🦇✅

This evening, while I was deep in work mode, Chilli—my ever-vocal feline companion—suddenly made it very clear that something wasn’t quite right.

Turns out… there was a BAT in the house.
Yes. A bat. Flying. Inside. 😳

Thanks to Chilli’s insistent storytelling (usually reserved for 2am), I was able to respond quickly—and safely guide the bat out of the house. No panic. No chaos. Just calm teamwork.

So tonight, I learned how to remove a bat. And Chilli? He earned his badge as the official Bat Whisperer. 🥇

Everyone, meet Chilli:
Yes, he’s loud. Especially at night.
Yes, some people find him very annoying.
But when I’m the only human at home, he’s more grounded. And today—his voice became the exact guidance I needed.
